    BVM Sister Carmelina Meyers, 91, died May 11 in Dubuque, Iowa.

    Born in Evanston, she entered the BVM congregation in 1942, from St. Margaret Mary Parish and professed final vows in 1949.

    In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Carmelina taught at St. Dorothy; St. Ferdinand; and Madonna High School, where she also served as campus/youth minister; St. Eulalia, Maywood; and St. Gilbert, Grayslake. She also taught in New York.

    She is survived by a sister, Patricia Krase.

    Adrian Dominican Sister Helen (Rose Michaeleen) Walsh, 96, died May 10 in Adrian, Michigan. Born in Chicago, she was in the 72nd year of her religious life.

    Sister Helen taught, ministered to inmates and served in adult education in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Florida and California.

    In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at St. Columbanus (1946-1951) and St. Kilian (1958-1961).

    Sister Helen is survived by a brother, Joseph Walsh, and a sister, Mary Jo Walsh.

    Sinsinawa Dominican Sister Marie Kevin Claybaugh, 102, died May 6 in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.

    Born in Toulon, Illinois, Sister Marie Kevin made her first religious profession in 1941 and her final profession in 1944. She served in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Nebraska.

    In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Marie Kevin taught at St. Sabina (1948-1957), Visitation (1958-1968), Epiphany (1968-1969) and St. Basil (1969-1981), where she also served as secretary. Sister Marie Kevin also served in transportation at Queen of Peace Ministry Center, Burbank (1981-1991).

  • Sr. Gilmary Lemberg

    Educator, artist

    School Sister of Notre Dame Sister Gilmary (Dorothy) Lemberg, 90, died April 28 at Resurrection Life Center.

    Born in Blue Island, Sister Gilmary attended St. Barnabas School and Academy of Our Lady before entering the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1946. She took first vows in 1949.

    She taught art in schools in Wisconsin and art lessons on the Milwaukee archdiocesan TV channel. She then taught in DeKalb, Illinois, doing her television program on weekends.

    Her art career included metal sculptures, church banners and the design for the renovations of several churches. She helped renovate the buildings for the Maria House shelter and SisterHouse residence for women in recovery, both in Chicago. She also served as vocation director for the Chicago province.

    Later, she served in Paraguay, creating statues and a mural behind the main altar at a parish there.

    Deacon John Zurawksi, 75, died May 22. He was ordained in 1986 and served at St. John Vianney Parish.

    He is survived by his wife, Jackie Zurawski; his children Mary Tarchala, John Anthony Zurawski and John Luke Zurawski; and his grandson Dan Tarchala.

    Deacon Roman Revering, 81, died May 3.

    He ministered at St. Luke School in River Forest, where he dressed up as St. Nick and gave out chocolate coins to children, and St. James School in Maywood for many years.

    He is survived by his sister, Adelheid "Penny" Heinz.

    Adrian Dominican Sister Mary Ann (John Marguerite) Dardy, 72, died April 21 in Adrian, Michigan.

    Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was in the 54th year of her religious life.

    Sister Mary Ann ministered in Michigan, Illinois, Florida, Alabama and South Carolina. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at Our Lady of Good Counsel (1964-1966) and St. Kilian (1966-1967).

    Sister Mary Ann is survived by a brother, Anthony Dardy.

    Felician Sister Marie Irene (Irene) Petrykowski, 93, died April 20 at Our Lady of the Angels.

    Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, she entered the Felician Sisters in Chicago in 1941 and professed her final vows in 1949. For most of her religious life, she ministered in elementary and high schools as a teacher and principal in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

    In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she ministered at St. Helen (1941-1942, 1944-1946); Sacred Heart (1943-1944); St. Stanislaus, Posen (1946-1947); St. Mary Magdalen (1947-1950); St. Turibius (1957-1962); Our Lady of Ransom, Niles (1962-1967); St. Wenceslaus (1967-1968); Good Counsel High School (1968-1971); St. Joseph High School (1971-1977, 1985-1986); and Holy Innocents (1980-1981).

    Adrian Dominican Sister Dorothy (Norbert Mary) Jehle, 96, died April 18 in Adrian, Michigan.

    Born in Chicago, she was in the 71st year of her religious life. Sister Dorothy was a high school and college educator in Michigan, Illinois and Florida. She spent 20 years as a professor and 20 years as an archivist at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.

    Providence Sister Marie Brendan (Mary Therese) Harvey, 90, died Dec. 27 in Eagle River, Wisconsin.

    Born in Chicago, Sister Marie Brendan entered the Sisters of Providence in 1946 and professed final vows in 1953.

    She taught music at the elementary, high school and college levels, then did pastoral ministry, liturgical consultation and development work in Indiana. Illinois, Michigan and Montana.

    In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she was a development assistant at the University of Illinois (1990-1995) and was alumnae coordinator for Providence High School at Mother Theodore Guerin High School (1995-2003).
