    School Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Jeanette (Mary Urban) DeBrosse, 89, died May 24 in Ohio.

    Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Sister Jeanette entered the community in 1946 and made final vows in 1954.

    She taught in elementary schools in Illinois and Ohio. In the Archdiocese of Chicago she taught at St. Victor, Calumet City; St. Robert Bellarmine; and Notre Dame High School.

    She later worked in a variety of administrative positions for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the public library in Cincinnati.

    Sister Jeanette is survived by her sisters Rita, Evelyn, Helen and Adele.

  • Sr. Alessandra Kubasta

    Educator

    Sinsinawa Dominican Sister Alessandra Kubasta, 95, died May 18 in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.

    Born in Wisconsin, Sister Alessandra made her first religious profession in 1941 and her final profession in 1944. She was an elementary teacher for 26 years, principal for 12 years and postmaster at the U.S. post office at Sinsinawa for 11 years.

    In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Alessandra taught at Visitation (1941-1942) and St. Brendan (1948-1952).

    She is survived by two sisters, Jacqueline Knutowski and Elaine Statz, and a brother, Gene Kubasta.

  • Sr. Frances Dolan

    Educator, musician

    BVM Sister Frances (Franciscus) Dolan, 100, died May 18 in Dubuque, Iowa.

    Born in Chicago, she entered the BVM congregation in 1935 from St. Alphonsus Parish and professed final vows in 1943.

    In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Frances taught music at Carmel High School, Mundelein, and at Mundelein College; was associate professor of music at Loyola University; and served as music/liturgy coordinator at Wright Hall, a BVM residence. Sister Frances also taught music in elementary and secondary schools in California, Missouri and Wisconsin.

  • Sr. Jane Joyce

    Educator, administrator

    School Sister of Notre Dame Sister Jane (Margaret Therese) Joyce, 90, died May 11.

    She was born in Chicago and baptized at St. Benedict. She attended St. Michael High School. She entered the novitiate in 1946, professed first vows in 1947 and professed final vows in 1953.

    Sister Jane taught intermediate and junior high grades at several schools in Wisconsin and Illinois, as well as serving as principal and superior in some of them. In 1995, Sister Jane became alumnae coordinator for the Academy of Our Lady and retained that position for more than 10 years. From 2002 to 2005, she served as archivist for the Chicago province. In 2007, she moved to Marian Village, and in 2008, to Resurrection Life Center.

  • Fr. Robert Cross

    Pastor emeritus

    Father Robert Ambrose Cross, 90, died June 9 at Belmont Village Senior Living, Oak Park. He was pastor emeritus of Ascension Parish in Oak Park.

    Born in Indiana, he attended St. Luke School, River Forest; Quigley Preparatory Seminary; and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary before being ordained in 1952. He also earned a licentiate of sacred theology and a master’s degree in library science.

    He was assistant pastor of St. Mary, Lake Forest (1952-1956); taught at Quigley Preparatory Seminary North (1956-1961) and Quigley Preparatory Seminary South (1961-1974); and was assistant pastor at St. Nicholas of Tolentine (1966-1970) and the Sacred Heart Parishes (1970-1974). He was pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes (1974-1982) and Ascension (1982-1988). He was associate pastor at St. Cornelius (1988-1993) and St. Frances of Rome, Cicero (1993-1995). He was appointed pastor emeritus of Ascension in 1996.
